Dutee defends 200m title in Junior National Meet

An 11-member Odisha squad bagged a total of three medals in the 13th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championship, held at GMC Balyogi Stadium in Hyderabad from August 7 to 9. The medals included one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Riging woman sprinter Dutee Chand won the gold medal in 200 meter sprint, clocking 24.03 seconds. She was very close to her previous mark of 23.95s which was the gold medal performance at the previous edition of championship in Chennai.

Originally not in the squad, Dutee rushed to Hyderabad after completing her events in the All-India Railway Athletics Championship at Bhopal. She won the gold on the final day of the Hyderabad meet. Damayanti Murmu secured the silver medal in girls’ javelin throw, hurling the spear to a distance of 39.89 meter. The bronze medal was claimed by Rajeswari Bhoi in heptathlon event with 4150 points.
